Five brothers, Paul, Bill, Terence, Noel and Matthew have challenged themselves to bike from Hunstanton to Sheringham along the North Norfolk coast road this Easter Saturday. The reason? To raise money for Big C!
We spoke to Bill about the siblings upcoming ride: “The distance we are cycling is approximately 35 miles which poses quite a challenge in itself in that none of us have been on a bicycle for many years!
“Our dear parents William and Margaret live in Sheringham and have been through various cancer treatments over the last seven years.
“Dad was diagnosed with bowel cancer first, and was left adjusting to a new life with a colostomy bag when he found out he had secondary cancer on his lungs. He’s now been through four more treatments – two of which were aggressive treatments and two that were more manageable.
“About a year after Dad’s initial diagnosis, Mum found out she had lung cancer and went through treatment including surgery to remove part of her lungs.
“They were extremely well looked after by the medical experts and consultants at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital and Cromer Hospital. We’ve been thinking for a while we should do something to give back.
“We chose Big C because it’s a local charity that supports anyone affected by cancer not just patients. Almost everyone suffers indirectly from cancer at some point and the fact the charity will support anyone at any time is great and we’re pleased to be raising money, raising the charity’s profile and giving Mum and Dad a boost all at the same time.”
Big C is pleased to say that the brothers have already smashed their £1000 fundraising target!
