Our people

Our people shape our work. From our staff, volunteers and Trustees, scientists and health professionals, through to those affected by cancer, their families and friends and everyone who supports the charity through donating and fundraising.

Chief Executive

Karen comes with a wealth of knowledge and experience from working in strategic roles across public and private sectors. She has also supported the third sector both as a trustee and as an elected local councillor, where she served as Chair of Broadland District Council through the COVID-19 pandemic and more recently Chair of Norfolk County Council.

With her solid background in financial management and business planning Karen will help Big C to build on its firm foundations and strengthen them to secure a more sustainable future.

Dale is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants who started his career in public practice working on audits for both PLCs and smaller local companies.

He then spent over 20 years in the motor industry as Director of five motor dealerships before switching career paths to spend 10 years as Director of Resources within the education sector; finally moving to the third sector by joining Big C.

In his role at Big C, Dale has responsibility for the backroom functions and with his team works to ensure the charity operates professionally and efficiently to ensure the maximum sum from the donor pound goes to the delivery of frontline services.

Company Secretary

Kate is a Chartered Governance Professional with over 25 years’ experience of working with voluntary sector organisations and prior to joining Big C in 2009 she was the Group Secretary for a regional group of social housing providers.

In her role at Big C Kate works closely with the Board of Trustees and colleagues to ensure that Big C meets statutory and good practice requirements for the robust governance of the charity. Kate is also responsible for the stewardship of our grant giving framework, legacy income pipeline, and complaints.

Charitable
Operations

Big C’s team of highly qualified nursing staff and officers provide a wide range of practical and emotional support including counselling, welfare advice, group support and complementary therapies.

People

The people team support everyone right across the organisation from our volunteers to employees, Trustees to work experience placements and everything in between.

Fundraising & Comms

Our fundraising, marketing and communications team look after the wide variety of events we have at Big C, as well as dealing with any internal and external communications.

Finance

Our finance team manages the accounts and finances for the charity.

Retail

Our retail team look after our 11 charity shops across Norfolk and into Suffolk. From receiving donations and sorting to creating displays in our shops and serving customers, no day is the same!

Corporate Services

Our corporate services department is made up of our people, finance and digital compliance teams, and looks after the charity’s estates.

Amelia Reynolds is a television presenter for the BBC in the East of England.

She presents the weekday regional news programme Look East and the Sunday morning political programme Politics East.

Amelia was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2021. She received treatment at the Norfolk and Norwich and got involved with Big C in an effort to give something back.

Chris Reeve is co-host of Talk Norwich City and Managing Director of Reeve Social Media.

Chris has been involved with Big C for many years, ever since the charity supported his Mum back in 2007 when she had Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. Chris was 14 years old at the time and has made it his mission ever since, to give back as much as possible to Big C.

Chris has already helped raise £30k for the charity through his fundraising with Talk Norwich City.  

Thank you to the team at Big C for giving me this title, it’s an absolute honour.

Ambassador

Melinda has been involved with the family farming business near Thetford for over 50 years. She was an Ambassador for Breakthrough Breast Cancer (Breast Cancer Now), Norfolk Patron for Marie Curie, and as well holding other roles with national and regional charities including East Anglian Air Ambulance and Norfolk Heart Trust. Melinda set up YANA, the East Anglian Rural Mental Health Charity, in 2008. She was a Deputy Lieutenant of Norfolk for 13 years, a role which brought her into contact with outstanding voluntary groups, charities and innovative businesses across Norfolk. 

With her own experience of cancer, Melinda is delighted to be appointed as an Ambassador for Big C.
