Our impact

Year on year we’re making progress across the organisation to offer more support to people affected by cancer across Norfolk and surrounding counties. Read more about Big C’s impact over the past year…

21,790 support sessions have been held

From January to December 2024, 21,790 support sessions were held with people affected by cancer. This can be the person diagnosed, their family, friends or carers.

We supported over 732 service users per month

Our support teams across all centres and hubs interacted with an average of 732 people affected by cancer each month.

2,550 welfare matters have been resolved

In 2024, Big C’s welfare advice service, which is run in conjunction with the Diss, Thetford and District branch of Citizen’s Advice, helped 946 service users with 2,550 issues which gained an income of £3.2 million on their behalf.

Our retail operations brought in £1.4million

£1.4million was raised through our 11 shops during 2024. So every time you shop with Big C, or drop a bag of unwanted clothes off to us, you’re helping make a huge difference.

£339k has been invested in research projects

Big C is currently supporting six ongoing grants with awards totalling £339k, four of which started in October 2024. In the Autumn of 2024 the Trustees received five excellent applications for PhD cancer research funding. After a robust and independent review process we are delighted to make two PhD studentship awards of £50k each with the remainder of the costs supported by the host institution, the University of East Anglia. These PhD studentships will be hosted in the Medical School and School of Biological Sciences at UEA and both will start in late 2025.

We’ve helped people like Helen

Helen came across Big C after a nurse mentioned the charity at hospital and put a card in her new patient pack. Since then Helen has used many of our support services and programmes. This is her story…

We’ve helped people like Janice & Eddie

Janice is one of our dedicated volunteers at the King’s Lynn Support Centre, and having been involved for a while now, wanted to share her story…
