LILAC – Ladies in League Against Cancer
LILAC – Ladies in League Against Cancer was founded by Theresa Cossey MBE and Gaye Youngman in 2005 as a voluntary fundraising group focused on fun and friendship. LILAC raise funds to support the work of Big C improving the lives of local people affected by cancer in Norfolk and surrounding counties.
Since 2005 LILAC has gone from strength to strength and now has a loyal membership of ladies enjoying a wide variety of events whilst raising thousands of pounds each year for cancer support, education and research in our local area.
In recent years LILAC has:
- Supported the Big C Cancer Support Centres across the county, including the new Norwich City Cancer Support Centre in Dereham Road, Norwich
- Raised funds for projection equipment for the NNUH Oncology dept and a camera for UEA School of Biological Sciences
- Funded an annual student bursary, based at Norwich Research Park
- Supported the Boudicca Appeal at NNUH
This year LILAC is supporting a 4 year PhD programme in collaboration with the UEA Science Faculty, supporting the Big C Nourish & Nurture nutrition and wellness programme as well as funding an educational psychologist for our new Family Support Programme in collaboration with the Jenny Lind Department at NNUH, and contributing to the newly adapted area, which offers a calm, child friendly space for families to enjoy away from the hospital environment.
LILAC’S fundraising support for Big C
Since 2005, LILAC has raised over £500,000 for Big C. A tremendous fundraising effort which has aided the work of Big C in supporting anyone in Norfolk and surrounding counties affected by cancer, from diagnosis and treatment through to life beyond cancer.
