LILAC – Ladies in League Against Cancer
LILAC – Ladies in League Against Cancer was founded by Theresa Cossey MBE and Gaye Youngman in 2005 as a voluntary fundraising group focused on fun and friendship. LILAC raise funds to support the work of Big C improving the lives of local people affected by cancer in Norfolk and surrounding counties.
Since 2005 LILAC has gone from strength to strength and now has a loyal membership of ladies enjoying a wide variety of events whilst raising thousands of pounds each year for cancer support, education and research in our local area.
In recent years LILAC has:
- Supported the Big C Cancer Support Centres across the county, including the new Norwich City Cancer Support Centre in Dereham Road, Norwich
- Raised funds for projection equipment for the NNUH Oncology dept and a camera for UEA School of Biological Sciences
- Funded an annual student bursary, based at Norwich Research Park
- Supported the Boudicca Appeal at NNUH
In 2023/2024 LILAC will support a 3 year PHD programme in collaboration with the UEA, support the Big C Nourish & Nurture nutrition and wellness programme and the creation of a Big C Family support programme in collaboration with the Jenny Lind Department at NNUH.
LILAC’S fundraising support for Big C
Since 2005, LILAC has raised over £500,000 for Big C. A tremendous fundraising effort which has aided the work of Big C in supporting anyone in Norfolk and surrounding counties affected by cancer, from diagnosis and treatment through to life beyond cancer.
Volunteering is a great way to spend free time, meet new people, and gain experience.
We’re making progress across the organisation to offer more support to people affected by cancer.
We are a local, people-first charity providing outstanding cancer support.
