BBC Winterwatch’s Michaela Strachan joins Big C Team at new King’s Lynn Cancer Centre

This weekend, the Big C team in King’s Lynn was joined by special guest, Michaela Strachan, ahead of World Cancer Day which takes place on 4th February.

After filming BBC’s Winterwatch in Norfolk, Michaela, who is herself a cancer survivor, visited Big C’s new Support and Information Centre in Railway Road to find out about the services available to those affected by cancer locally.

Big C opened its original Cancer Support and Information Centre in King’s Lynn in 2013. The Centre recently relocated to new, larger premises to create a fully accessible, modern and welcoming facility, which is now open on an appointment basis.

A team of qualified nursing professionals and specialist support officers are on hand with a friendly listening ear. They can help with the many questions that arise during such a challenging time, via services such as ‘Ask the Nurse’. Free professional counselling and complementary therapies are available for emotional and wellbeing

support, along with practical help and welfare guidance in partnership with Citizens Advice.

Michaela was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2014 and underwent a double mastectomy, followed by breast reconstruction.

"I wish I’d had somewhere like Big C where people understand it, they know how to help and things are in place to get you through that journey. It really is a fabulous place for people to come who have been diagnosed with cancer in Kings Lynn and I’m sure it’s going to help so many people get through the cancer journey."
