Supporting Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital Foundation Trust as a cancer centre

Supporting Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital Foundation Trust as a cancer centre

£51,410 in spring 2009 to allow the appointment of a Cancer Lead Nurse at the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital Foundation Trust.

At the time the hospital had a number of work areas that related to cancer services and the long term future of the Trust as a cancer centre.  These included ensuring that the Trust was meeting governmental requirements on cancer reform and implementing recommendations of the National Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy Advisory Groups.  The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) was in the process of publishing a series of guidance manuals for cancer services and the Trust also needed to show that it was complying with these.

The appointed Cancer Lead Nurse undertook some of the work that needed to be clinically driven and freed the Trust’s Cancer Operational Manager to carry out the more strategic planning.

Some people take to the skies, run, jump, walk, swim and cycle whilst others make tea, bake cakes or shave heads.

What will you do to make a difference?

Two men from Norfolk who found themselves with cancer and having to travel for treatment, vowed local people would have access to the best treatment and support … and in 1980 the Big C Appeal was formed.
