Our impact
Year on year we’re making progress across the organisation to offer more support to people affected by cancer across Norfolk and surrounding counties. Read more about Big C’s impact over the past year…
20,751 support sessions have been held
From January to December 2023, 20,751 support sessions were held with people affected by cancer. This can be the person diagnosed, their family, friends or carers.
We supported over 670 service users per month
Our support teams across all centres and hubs interacted with an average of 677 people affected by cancer each month.
2,302 welfare matters have been resolved
In 2023, Big C’s welfare advice service, which is run in conjunction with the Diss, Thetford and District branch of Citizen’s Advice, helped 921 service users with 2,302 issues which gained an income of £2.7million on their behalf.
Our retail operations brought in £1.4million
£1.4million was raised through our 11 shops during 2023. So every time you shop with Big C, or drop a bag of unwanted clothes off to us, you’re helping make a huge difference.
£139k has been invested in research projects
Big C is currently supporting two ongoing grants with awards totalling £139k, and in 2023 the sum of £200k was awarded to cancer research taking place on the Norwich Research Park. This included a contribution of £50k from the LILAC fundraisers and additional support from the University of East Anglia, enabling four PhD projects to be funded, all of which are planned to start in late 2024.
35,450 hours of volunteering
In 2023, 35,450 hours of volunteering were undertaken across the organisation, which meant we could keep our Support Centres, online hub, retail shops and events running efficiently.
