£53,621 in spring 2010 for a UEA School of Chemistry research project into the development of nanomedicines for a new breast cancer treatment.  This builds upon work previously funded by Big C.

Nanomedicines measure in at around 1/30,000th the thickness of a human hair.

Once accumulated at the cancer site, infrared light is applied causing the release of a toxic form of oxygen directly to the cancer cells, leaving the normal cells completely unaffected.

More than 40,000 women per year are diagnosed with breast cancer1 and it is hoped that any future treatments would be active against 25% of all breast cancers.

What will you do to make a difference?

Two men from Norfolk who found themselves with cancer and having to travel for treatment, vowed local people would have access to the best treatment and support … and in 1980 the Big C Appeal was formed.
