£150,000 in spring 2007 to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital King’s Lynn for a digital mammographic unit.
This grant allowed the purchase of a new digital mammography and stereotactic biopsy unit to speed up the process of obtaining biopsies of suspicious breast lesions. Previously the hospital had an analogue unit and this lengthened the procedure which can be distressing to the patient. Current recommendations from the NHS Breast screening programme state that all analogue units should be replaced by modern digital apparatus.
