Volunteer in a Centre

Spending time with those using our Support Centres allows volunteers to build communication and empathy skills, as well as directly helping individuals and families affected by cancer. 

We have Support and Information Centres at Great Yarmouth, Kings Lynn, Norwich anda Hub within the Louise Hamilton Centre at the James Paget University Hospital (JPUH).

Key Roles:
  • Provide a friendly and polite welcome to visitors to the Centre
  • Provide information on local amenities at the Centre, e.g. kitchen, toilets, library, etc
  • Provide refreshments – tea, coffee, etc
  • Answer general queries about the Centre and it’s services
  • Provide a listening ear
  • Refer enquirers to appropriate members of staff if they need further help
  • Actively look for anyone who may need help in the Centre
  • Report any incidents to the Centre Manager / Deputy Manager
  • Keep all information given or discussed within the Centre confidential
  • Attend relevant training sessions provided by Big C
  • Assist all Big C Centre staff to ensure safe staffing levels are maintained

This role is perfect for anyone wanting to gain experience in a local charity and gain experience working in a team and with the public. Full training will be provided and volunteers will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check, previous experience in customer service is desirable but not essential. It is important that you are able to be sensitive, friendly and welcoming to those visiting the Centres.
