FAQs & Queries

Below we have tried to answer some of the questions we get asked most frequently.

Big C is unique - the only local cancer charity in Norfolk investing local people’s donations into support and information services, hospital equipment and cancer research.

Big C is fair and transparent in the way investment decisions are made – all applications are reviewed by at least two but usually three independent experts. Our system for reviewing grant applications meets the standards of the Association of Medical Research Charities.

Big C is a charity – we do not fund hospital equipment or projects that are the responsibility of the state to provide.

Our role is to complement what the NHS can do – not do its job for it.

Big C has a clear policy on the use of animals in research – we do not directly fund research that involves the use of live animals.

Common Questions

Isn't Big C just the Norfolk branch of a national cancer charity?
No. Big C is a completely independent charity for the people of Norfolk & Waveney established in 1980. Every penny raised here is invested right back into the county to help improve the lives of those affected by cancer.

Do I have to pay anything to use the support on offer in your Centres?
Thanks to the kind support and money raised by the local community, all the services on offer at the Big C Centres are completely free of charge.

How can Big C help me if I want to hold my own event?
Our fundraising team can help you from start to finish with holding your own event. From sponsorship, online fundraising pages, even to support on the day. Simply get in touch to find out more.
