High tech procedure to save lives
£53,450 for cutting edge HALO technology at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital's Department of General Surgery.
This new equipment will allow for Endoscopic Radiofrequency Ablation (RFA) to be performed on patients with Barrett's Oesophagus (a condition that can lead to cancer due to abnormal cell growth).
In the past it was necessary to perform a life changing and highly invasive oesophagectomy (the removal of part or all of the patient's oesophagus).
RFA takes less than 30 minutes under sedation with patients able to leave the hospital the same day. RFA has been found to be successful after just two sessions in most cases.
