Heading to Run Norwich this year?

31 Days | 200+ #TeamBigC Runners

Are you ready? The countdown continues to the Run Norwich start line, we can't believe we're only 1 month away from taking to the streets of Norwich for the annual 10k run though the city.

Many of you will have your own story and reason for running for Big C this year - just like Jo. Inspired by last year's race, and following her own cancer journey, Jo decided to take on Run Norwich 2017 to give something back to Big C and make a difference to other people affected by cancer.

Jo Somerville’s Story

Jo was diagnosed with breast cancer last February after her first ever routine mammogram, very shortly after she turned 50 years old. Jo has said the Big C Centre was “a huge help” in supporting her during her brave fight with cancer.

As she began her recovery, Jo by pure chance encountered a race in Norwich. At the time, she said to her husband that she would like to do something similar the following year if she was well enough. Lo and behold, she was well enough and is now taking part in Run Norwich 2017 to raise funds for the charity that helped her. Her good friend will be running alongside her.

"The amazing staff at the Big C Centre gave support to both me and my husband during the treatment. Afterwards when everything hit home and I was faced with the scary differences in my body image, I was really depressed at that point. The support I received was amazing and helped me move slowly forward. The Big C Centre offered me a slice of humanity during a very disconcerting brush with the medical world. Now I have a chance to give something back by helping to raise money so others can get the same wonderful support I had."

Don't forget the Big C Cheering Station!
Don't forget we'd love for you to encourage your friends, family and supporters to gather at the Big C Cheering Station in Tombland opposite the Maids Head Hotel and Norwich Cahtedral Gates.

This will be a great location for them to see you running twice - once as you come out of the Cathedral gates, and again on your return journey from Magdalen Street back up to the City Centre.

Our volunteers will be on hand with #TeamBigC inflatable supporter sticks ready, to help make as much noise as possible to cheer you on as you run past. We would recommend that people get to this location no later than 9.45am.
