Big C Research Roadshow – Coming to a Town Near You

Some of the country’s future leaders of cancer research are going on tour around Norfolk during May and June, to give people the opportunity to learn more about cancer and to raise awareness of the first-class local research taking place in the fight against the disease.
Scientists from Norwich Research Park at the University of East Anglia, will take part in the Research Roadshow, which is being organised by Big C.

Displays will explore answers to frequent questions such as “How do we get cancer?” “What does cancer look like?” and “Will there ever be a cure?” To help people further understand how cells are studied, there will also be the chance to view your own cheek cells under a microscope. You will also be able to see how your fundraising support directly helps in the fight against cancer both locally and globally.
Nikki Morris, Deputy Chief Executive at Big C, said, “At Big C we’re proud to fund research to diagnose, treat and prevent cancer. It is rare that such high calibre researchers can go ‘on tour’ to meet people across Norfolk and open discussions about cancer. It’s also a wonderful opportunity to discover more about the world-leading cancer research projects that are taking place on our doorstep and to see first-hand the significant difference made by those that fundraise on our behalf.”
The roadshows will take place from 9am to 4pm, with the schedule of dates below:
  • 2 May - Morrison’s, Fakenham
  • 6 May - Sainsbury’s, Great Yarmouth
  • 2 June - Market Place, Dereham
  • 16 June - Market Place, Downham Market
  • 8 July - Railway Station, Sheringham
  • 14 July - Sainsbury’s, Thetford
Where does the money come from?
Everyday Big C is helping discover more ways to treat cancer. The funding for all Big C research grants comes directly from donations, legacies and fund raising initiatives from both private and corporate supporters. Big C also has 10 retail outlets across the region.

Through the investment in first class research, Big C is working hard to make a difference to people affected by cancer for today and for tomorrow.
