Here to support you

Big C is here…and thankfully you found us

Visits during the year rose across all our four of our Big C Centres at Norwich, Great Yarmouth, Gorleston and King’s Lynn. With a cuppa in hand you said we had helped you and your families share your fears, anxieties, emotions, answer your many questions and support you.

“A wonderful and uplifting experience. An amazing space where people treat you with love and respect. It restored my trust and faith in people.”

"The centre has been a life line for myself and my best friend who lost her battle last year. Eleven months on and I was struggling with my loss and again this centre is helping me through.”

“It is amazing and offers everything you may need to support you at your most vulnerable time, from information to massage..”

“We needed a quiet time outside of the hospital to face some daunting tests. The air of calm at Big C, and a relaxing massage, was wonderful and refreshing…they couldn’t do enough for us.”

Thank you for your generous and positive feedback on our service. Remember Big C is there not just to help cancer patients, but also to support family and friends who are also affected by a diagnosis.

More than 15,000 visitors have been hosted at the centres during the year, an increase of 17 per cent on 2015. The rise in new visitors was up nearly 6.5per cent and in Great Yarmouth the total number of monthly visits from men doubled those of women.

Two new Men’s Cancer Groups were formed in King’s Lynn and Great Yarmouth as a response to key needs identified by national local research.

On one day in September 100 people visited the Norwich Centre - the highest daily number of visits to any Centre since the first was opened in May 2006.

Nikki Morris, Director of Support and Information, attributes the rise in numbers to an increase in the range and quality of services offered, that are very person specific. “We recognise everyone is different, with different needs and who access the centres in different ways. Awareness of the centres has increased, most people are recommended by their health care provider or word of mouth in the community. It is wonderful to know that we have been able to help so many people and cancer patients and their families realise we are there to help them.”
