Big C's cycling fundraising guitarist comes to Norfolk

World Class Guitarist undertakes his UK Tour on a Bike
World Class Musician, Richard Durrant, is cycling over 1000 miles for his UK Tour – and raising money for Norfolk’s Cancer Charity Big C.
Norfolk’s Cancer Charity, Big C, are set to benefit from world class guitarist, Richard Durrant’s musical cycle tour, which is coming to Norwich very soon. The idea began as a bid to cut down his carbon footprint and has become a 1000-mile cycle tour of the UK. Durrant and his friend and Manager Sean Simington, will cycle between concert venues with his entire stage show (including guitar and lights) packed into panniers and a bike trailer.
Durrant says:
“Touring musicians tend to leave a fairly massive carbon footprint - so for me this is payback time. Having been a regular cyclist for years I wanted to see where a tour by bike would take me, both geographically and musically.”

Richard and Sean are now over halfway through their Cycling Music Tour of England and are heading to Norfolk now.  To date they have covered over 900 miles and performed 19 concerts.  20% of the tour proceeds are being donated to Big C.  To date on the tour they have raised over £2,000 and are sure this figure will be substantially higher by the end of the tour on 20th June, when they arrive back to their starting point in Shoreham by the Sea.

On 11th June, the tour arrives in Norwich to perform at St. Benedict's Street’s appropriately named Bicycle Shop Cafe.  They are currently in Doncaster, moving on today to Lincoln heading down to Norfolk for the weekend shows at Fakenham (Community Centre, 8th June) and Norwich (11th June at Bicycle Shop, St. Benedict's).
Last Spring, Sean completed the Lands End to John O'Groats cycle ride in memory of his late partner Shirley who passed away in March. Together with other fundraisers they raised in excess of £7,000 in total for Big C.
Diane Northway, Community Fundraising Manager says:
“Big C are delighted to benefit from such a novel idea for a fundraising event. We love that it’s eco friendly as well as doing so much to help improve the lives of those affected by cancer in Norfolk and Waveney. £2,000 is a fantastic amount and with any luck there’ll be even more. Big thanks goes out to Richard and Sean”.
