Olive Pestell is well known at the North Norfolk Railway 1940s weekend. For years, her and her family have gone to the event for their own pleasure, but this year they are bringing Big C with them.
: Since taking part in the headshave in September, the total amount that Olive has now raised is £1855.93!!
On the 20th
of September, Sheringham will host the 1940s weekend, which will include roughly 1000 people re-enacting the period, as well as many people in full costume, period vehicles and food of the era. There is an incredible atmosphere as people from around the country come together to celebrate the wartime period. In the year of the 100th
anniversary since the First World War began, this year is sure to be a big event.
On Sunday 21st
, 71-year-old Olive will have her hair shaved off, 1940s style, using shears from the period, rather than a modern shaver. She has been inspired to do this after losing both her father and her sister to cancer. When another close relative was diagnosed with cancer, she decided “I’m not losing anyone else. Not if I can help it”. Olive is clearly very determined to make her mark in stopping cancer and said “I’ve had a great life. I’ll do anything I can to help both now, and for the future”. This shaving will take place as a re-enactment in which Olive has been caught collaborating with the Germans and is having her hair shaved off before being taken away.
Olive and her family will also be raising money at the Ramsey 1940s weekend on the 16th
August where they will have their homemade grinding barrow.
Olive has so far raised around £330 for Big C. To donate to Olives headshave event, you can visit her online donation page at: www.justgiving/Olivepestellheadshave
