Support is gathering for Big C’s annual Link Up Your C Cup event, as civic leaders join in the appeal for bras to hang from City Hall.
The appeal, on Friday 28 September, will see donated lingerie hooked together into a chain decorating the building.
Sheriff of Norwich John Jennings will be attending. He said: “I would encourage people to come along and get behind this imaginative event. It is an excellent way of highlighting a terrible illness, but creating a fun way for people to give their support.”
Members of the public who want to take part are invited to bring bras full of cash to the Norwich City Council offices, on St Peter’s Street in central Norwich. The bras will be linked up until they stretch around the balcony.
For a small donation, members of the public will be able to come out on to City Hall’s balcony and hook up their own bra to the chain.
Big C organises the event every year to fundraise and raise awareness of breast cancer ahead of Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.
Big C’s community fundraising manager Lesley Cologne said: “Link Up Your C Cup is always a highlight of the Big C events calendar. Last year’s appeal saw enough bras being donated to loop twice around Norwich Castle.
“It is also worth mentioning this event is not exclusive to women – we have a lot of men who like to join in and bring bras as well!”
The chain of bras will start at 11.30am and be removed at 2.30pm. Those in good enough condition will be sold in Big C’s shops.
For anyone who wants to take part but can’t make it to City Hall, Big C is also running a “wear your bra to work” event on the same day. Get sponsored to wear your bra over your clothes all day and raise much-needed funds for Norfolk and Waveney families living with cancer.
