Are you a carer with an opinion?

Big C doesn’t just offer its services to those affected by cancer – we want to help those who care for people with cancer too.
As carers are all different, we want to consider how we can offer support that is inclusive and how best we can collectively support carers.
We would like to invite carers to a workshop where we will start to look at what is important to them.

Big C, Norfolk and Waveney’s own cancer charity, opened its new Great Yarmouth centre last month.
Now we are looking at how best we can offer carers a safe welcoming place to come and be supported in a way that makes sense to them and meets their needs.
We need your help to find out how we can do this and where there are specific individual needs how we might be able to support these too.
We value the role of carers. They have varied roles that they offer, from practical, emotional support, transport to personal care.  Carers are all different and each individual has taken on the caring role for people in their life for different reasons and has different roles to play to meet the needs of the person cared for.
We can’t start to do this without expert advice, and the experts in this case are carers themselves.  For us to develop a service for carers we need to ensure that we start with those we want to benefit.
There are some things we have already decided.  They are:
  • The service will run out of our new Great Yarmouth centre.
  • It will run between 9.30am and 4.30pm from Monday to Saturday.
  • We want our carers to help us design, monitor and evaluate the support we offer.
  • We would have the offer of support every week so carers can have regular access to support.
The workshop will be held on Tuesday 30  October at 33 Regent Street, Great Yarmouth. We will hold two identical sessions, one in the morning from 10am to 12.30pm and one in the afternoon from 1.30pm to 4pm, to ensure that people who can only attend at certain times can come.
Refreshments and light snacks will be provided and reasonable expenses paid by prior arrangement.
For more information and to book a place please contact Big C’s social care lead Helen Bacon on 07525 801299 or by emailing

If you can't make it to the workshop but would still like to share your opinion, please fill in one of our e-surveys.
